Well lots happened this weekend, twas quite busy. Some familiar faces, some faces I missed, some faces I will miss again because they'll be out of town soon...
Saturday began the kickoff for my church's 40 Days of Purpose campaign with a simulcast (video). How, out of 300+ people at my church, I got roped into being the only pianist available for both morning and afternoon simulcasts I'll never know but the actual simulcast was pretty good. Hilarious moment: while trying to imply an olympic theme, the pastor carried a lit torch to the stage that set off the fire alarm. We're taking an in-depth look at the 40 Day Purpose Driven Life book by Rick Warren which encompasses the worship services, sunday school classes, and small groups.
For dinner, I joined a bunch of CCCO people gathering at Denise's house for a dinner of sorts. We had makeshift fajitas and pasta. Twas nice to do some cooking again, something I always enjoy but never seem to find the time or ingredients to do. Heheh, trying to sneak the cake for Denise was quite an ordeal... stupid locked fridge in the basement... eh, Andrew? heheh. I had to leave before dinner began 'cause I had worship team practise to attend.
Then, out of the blue, I get a call from Kat telling me that she's in town for the weekend. So we arranged to head out for coffee at the local Denny's after I stopped back at Denise's to say hi and grab some grub. Heheh, we sat at Denny's till like 3:30 in the morning just talking about stuff and catching up. Amazing that after all these years and after everything that has happened between us that we can still have conversations like that. I really enjoyed it... reminds me that true friendships never die... Despite only seeing her like maybe once or twice a year for the past few years, I still feel like she's the one person who knows me best and the one person that I can really open up to. She mentioned that I haven't changed much, which is probably true... I don't recall any drastic changes in my personality or appearance since high school. Hopefully I'm a little more mature, and a little more wise, and a little more God-focused... but I guess some things never change... heheh. Sometimes, I pose the "what if..." question...[sigh]... wondering what would have happened had we stayed together and such, but I guess God had a plan and story written out for both of us. Unfortunately, she was only around for the weekend and headed back to Kingston to work for the summer. I'll definitely miss her but I hope to stay in contact with her via MSN.
Sunday saw the worship committee lead worship, which is always fun 'cause we tend to do fun sets with all of us being experienced musicians and worship leaders. I was on electric guitar (fun fun) and I really hope it sounded ok. I'm very cautious about what I do with the electric guitar 'cause I don't wanna give the congregation a bad impression about its use in worship music. I find the electric guitar can really enhance a worship team's energy and musicality if used properly. After the worship service, I met up with some old high school friends for lunch (Kat, Aron, and Sean). Nice to see 'em again, though I kinda also wished Yayoi and Julie were there... to kinda complete the ol' high school gang. Heheh. But twas nice, caught up a bit, and had some good food at Darcy McGhee's.
After lunch, I rushed over to my small group for the 40-day PDL. My group basically consists of my university fellowship plus a few additions. I'm enjoying the company of this group and am definitely looking forward to some good discussion times ahead. Apparently, I'm helping lead the next meeting... eek... hope I can pull it off.
I entered this weekend somewhat in a down mood about the usual, my academics... but as the weekend went by, my spirits were lifted by friends, worship music, and studying God's purpose for my life. For this weekend at least, the burden of my marks and exams and such were lifted, if only for a moment.... and I have my friends to thank for that. So thanks.
Well... back to studying for my Friday exam.
